Cathay Pacific's Flagship First Class Lounge, The Wing, Has Reopened in Hong Kong
Cathay Pacific's The Wing, First is back at Hong Kong International Airport with a new look, new dining and a wellness offering that might have you hoping for a longer layover.
Cathay Pacific's The Wing, First has reopened at Hong Kong International Airport following its most extensive renovation to date. The flagship lounge, which has occupied the east side of Terminal 1 since HKIA opened in 1998, welcomed passengers back on 22nd April 2026 after 11 months of work, continuing the airline's long-running collaboration with London-based design studio StudioIlse.
Regulars will still recognise the signature green onyx in the central Atrium, but plenty has changed around it. Walnut wood is now the principal timber throughout, and granite flooring appears for the first time, a nod to traditional Chinese architecture. The old cabanas are gone, replaced by a more in-depth wellness experience.
The Atrium remains the heart of the lounge and your experience will shift dpending on when you arrive, from the wellness-led breakfast through afternoon tea to bistro-style dining in the evening, with the self-serve Pantry offering lighter bites at most hours. For something more formal, the Dining Room serves full à la carte with Asian and international options. Regional Chinese dishes have also been developed in partnership with Mott 32, the group behind some of Hong Kong's best contemporary Chinese dining, and sit alongside rotating seasonal specials.
The standout addition is The Retreat, which first appeared at The Pier, First and now features seven private booths for foot, neck and shoulder massages before a long flight - and it’s worth building in extra time for. The shower suites have also been refreshed, with updated lighting and water settings that let you choose between cleanse, refresh and relax modes.
If you need to work, the new Bureau is a fully enclosed private space, while The Alcove offers five quieter booths for some light checking of emails or reading, all with charging points.
One thing to be aware of: during the initial period, access is limited to Cathay Pacific first class passengers and Diamond members only. Other oneworld Emerald members and first class passengers on partner airlines will be directed to The Pier, First for the time being.
The reopening is part of Cathay's broader lounge programme at HKIA, which saw The Bridge reopen last year after its own redesign. Next up, The Wing, Business will close for renovation ahead of a 2027 reopening, and Cathay's first dedicated lounge at New York's JFK is also expected later this year.
