Mandarin Oriental Group have announced plans to fully renovate their two flagship properties in Bangkok and Hong Kong, to help elevate guests’ experience and drive global expansion.

Mandarin Oriental is a stalwart of Hong Kong for any luxury hotel lover and one of many spectcular luxury hotels in Southeast Asia, standing strong in the harbour city since 1963. Now, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced that both its original Hong Kong property and its outpost in Bangkok, Thailand, will be getting a significant makeover.

What to expect? Not everything has been revealed, but we know that both renovations will see suites, dining and amenities elevated to new heights. In Hong Kong, they’ll be introducing a plethora of new dining experiences, including some led by Michelin-starred chefs such as Anne-Sophie Pic and Alex Dilling in Thailand, and Daniel Boulud and Daniele Cason in Hong Kong. Chef Daniel Boulud’s dining offering will be an exclusive experience on a terrace at the top of Landmark Prince’s.

The locally-loved Cake Shop, Mandarin Grill + Bar, The Krug Room and Clipper Lounge will all be transformed as part of the project, and guests can look forward to a delicious pizza and wine counter run by Chef Daniele Cason, simliar to the one in MO Tokyo.

Also in Hong Kong, the Mandarin Oriental Group is planning a complete revamp of all public spaces with sustainability in mind, led by designer Hubert de Malherbe . An all-day lounge will be one of the many new additions, along with a dedicated whiskey bar. The hotel’s 447 guest rooms will also be overhauled, featuring new furnishings and local details (pictured) along with newly created suites designed by Thierry Lemaire, while the floor plan will be reconfigured to allow for 11 new apartments, all created by designer Jeffrey Wilkes.

If you love MO for its wellness, you’re also in luck, as the hotel will be improving The Mandarin Spa and Salon, with the addition of a new holistic Wellness Club concept, offering even more opportunities to escape the hustle of Hong Kong in tranquility.

As for the details: renovations are set to commence in the second quarter of 2025, taking place in four phases, with the end of 2026 set as a target date for completion.

Meanwhile, Mandarin Oriental’s Chao Praya property in Thailand’s capital has already kicked off work, with renovations set to be completed at the end of 2025, ready for the hotel to have a brand new look in time for its 150th anniversary in 2026. The hotel last had improvements in 2019, when the River Wing was upgraded.

This year’s plans will further transform rooms within the Author’s and Garden Wings (pictured). Interiors are being designed by Jeffrey Wilkes, who is also working on the upgrades at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. Additionally, the property’s Fitness Centre will be redesigned to offer an expanded wellness space and treatment programmes.

On the dining front, popular restaurant Le Normandie will be completely remodelled ahead of the introduction of acclaimed chef Anne-Sophie Pic, who will take the reigns later this year. And that’s not the only big name to join the team - Michelin-starred chef Alex Dilling will be taking over at Lord Jim’s, which will also overhaul its menu to focus on sharing-style dining and seasonal ingredients. Meanwhile, The China House will welcome Michelin-starred Chef Fei, who will bring the flavours of his home in Chaosan to the city, and across the river, Thai restaurant Baan Phraya will undergo a full refurbishment.

Having always been a grand dame of Bangkok, the hotel’s popularity has soared further after being featured in hit TV show The White Lotus last year, and personally, we can’t wait for the hotel’s new look to be unveiled.

And worry not - both hotels will remain open throughout the entire period, so whether you’re just passing through Hong Kong on a layover, or regularly frequent their luxury Thai property , you can soon look forward to a more stylish stay than ever before. .
