Mandarin Oriental Group's two flagship properties in Bangkok and Hong Kong are both in the midst of significant investment, with new dining, redesigned rooms and expanded wellness across both hotels to look forward to.

Mandarin Oriental has been a fixture of Hong Kong for what feels like forever, standing strong in the harbour city since 1963. Now, the group's original property is undergoing a US$100 million renovation, with work having commenced in mid-2025 and completion expected by the end of 2026, but don’t worry - the hotel is keeping its doors open throughout.

So what's changing? All public spaces are being redesigned by French designer Hubert de Malherbe, including a reimagined lobby, a new all-day lounge and a dedicated whisky bar. The hotel's 447 guest rooms will be overhauled with new furnishings and local details, with newly created suites designed by Thierry Lemaire and 11 new apartments by Jeffrey Wilkes.

On the dining front, several beloved venues including the Cake Shop, Mandarin Grill + Bar, The Krug Room and Clipper Lounge are all being transformed. A pizza and wine counter by Chef Daniele Cason, similar to the popular concept at MO Tokyo, will be a new addition. And the big name arrival? Terrace Boulud by Daniel Boulud has now opened at the top of LANDMARK PRINCE's, connected to the hotel via an enclosed walkway, with a rooftop terrace overlooking the city and harbour.

The Mandarin Spa and Salon will also be improved, with a new holistic Wellness Club offering more ways to decompress from the Hong Kong hustle.

Meanwhile, over on Thailand’s Chao Phraya River, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has already completed its renovation in time for the hotel's 150th anniversary this year. The Author's and Garden Wings have also been redesigned by Jeffrey Wilkes, and the dining line-up has seen some seriously impressive arrivals.

The legendary Anne-Sophie Pic has taken over at Le Normandie, making it the Michelin-starred chef's first restaurant in Thailand. Alex Dilling has launched a sharing-style concept at Lord Jim's, while Chef Fei has brought regional Chaoshan flavours to The China House. The hotel's popularity has only grown since its appearance in The White Lotus, and personally, we can't wait to see the finished product.

Both hotels remain open throughout, so whether you're just passing through Hong Kong on a layover or planning a stay at their Bangkok property, you can look forward to a more polished experience than ever. And if you're heading to Hong Kong in the meantime, the group's other Central property, Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, has just reopened after its own renovation.
