Everything You Need to Know About Vietnam's New Pre-Arrival Form

A new arrival is now mandatory at Ho Chi Minh City Airport, here’s everything you need to know about how it works.

Vietnam has introduced a Digital Pre-Arrival Information Form for foreign nationals arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, with the requirement having taken effect on 15th April 2026.

The short version: most international visitors now need to complete a free online declaration before reaching the immigration counter, which generates a QR code to present on arrival. Here's what you need to do.

Head to the official portal at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn and fill in your personal details, passport information, visa type and the address of your hotel - and you'll need a confirmed hotel address before you can complete the form, so make sure any accommodation is booked before you fill it in. Once submitted and approved, the system generates a QR code that immigration officers scan at the desk rather than entering your details manually. The form must be submitted within 72 hours of arrival and one declaration can cover a group travelling together, which will save time if you’re travelling as a family.

The requirement applies to foreign passport holders and overseas Vietnamese entering on a foreign passport with a visa. Vietnamese citizens and transit passengers remaining airside are exempt.

For now, it covers Tan Son Nhat only. Noi Bai in Hanoi and Da Nang are not yet included, though the system already has fields for multiple entry points, so we'd expect expansion to follow before too long.

Vietnam joins Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia in rolling out a digital pre-arrival system, with the aim of faster processing and shorter queues. Ho Chi Minh Airport has become known for lengthy immigration lines during busy times, and it remains to be seen how far the new system will go to ease this. We’d still suggest preparing for long queues during peak times.

Our advice is to add it to your pre-departure checklist alongside your e-visa and remember to complete it the day before you fly.
