Southeast Asia's First Onsen Resort Has Just Opened in Northern Vietnam

A new resort in Quang Ninh province is putting the region's natural hot mineral springs at the heart of every stay.

Northern Vietnam just got a lot more interesting for wellness travellers. Hilton Quang Hanh Onsen Resort has opened in the Quang Hanh valley in Cam Pha, Quang Ninh province, and the concept is a first for Southeast Asia: a full onsen resort built around the area's rare natural hot mineral springs, in a corner of the country that few make the journey to.

The location puts it roughly 30 minutes from Ha Long and two and a half hours from Hanoi, close to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay. The resort currently has 50 of its 178 villas open alongside all 38 rooms, with the remainder set to open later in the year. Every room and villa includes a private onsen, which is reason enough to visit on its own, along with access to all of its hot and cold saunas. Villas range from two to four bedrooms and at the top end, two Presidential Villas each span 1,250 square metres with five bedrooms, private teppanyaki facilities and a wine cellar.

For a more immersive bathing experience, guests can access Yoko Onsen Quang Hanh, the adjoining public facility with 27 onsen baths across male, female and mixed areas. There is also the Eforea Spa, an indoor pool set against mountain views and a 24-hour fitness centre.

Our favourite part? Dining is led by Genji, a modern Japanese restaurant with a sushi counter, teppanyaki and a kaiseki menu. The all-day dining restaurant, Kitchen Craft, is currently undergoing renovation and will reopen towards the end of the year.

For anyone planning a Ha Long Bay itinerary, pairing the cruise with an onsen stay in the surrounding countryside is a good reason to linger a little longer in the region. The remaining villas are due to open before the end of 2026, but rooms and the first 50 villas are available to book now.
